Client situation: CVS/Caremark contracted with Glickman Kovago Construction to build out and custom fit a new branch location for its home infusion therapy pharmacy. The project would involve gutting the entire interior space in the existing location in a commercial district of Northborough, Mass. The new facility would then require construction of a specialized clean room – a sterile environment suitable for mixing and compounding pharmaceuticals, as well as a prep room, anteroom, staging area, break room with kitchenette, an office, a mechanical room and an ADA-compliant accessible restroom.

Our response: Construction of the clean room required extensive planning so that we would follow extremely stringent and precise construction standards for both material selection and workmanship. When completed, the facility underwent detailed and thorough quality control testing by both private and state testing agencies. Occupancy was contingent upon successful testing results for the facility to be accredited and licensed by the state’s Board of Registration in Pharmacy.

Our scope of work included a complete upgrade of the electrical system, new and additional plumbing to accommodate the installation of an eyewash station, hand wash sinks, break room sink, restroom fixtures and floor drain, new walls, ceilings and flooring. We also installed new exterior doors, together with a high level security system with cameras and monitoring devices.

To meet specific requirements for the pharmaceutical industry, we identified and installed customized HVAC equipment and related ductwork. We completed construction for this project in three months.
